Japan’s Willcom sure doesn’t have a shortage of handsets that rock the foundation of what a wireless phone should be, so enter this entry: a handset inside a headset. Willcom’s conceptual “handset” here (that will never be in your hand) will accept a Willcom W-SIM so that the wireless headset sitting on top of that noggin can actually make independent voice calls as well. Since W-SIMs integrate a PHS wireless receiver right onto the card itself, it’s easy to give non-wireless devices that capability — so why not let that music-laden set of headphones have some fun, right?

Helio Introduce GPS Buddy Tracking on Cell Phones

With instant messaging programs, it’s easy to tell whether a friend is at the computer, ready to chat. Despite its immense popularity, the concept of the buddy list hasn’t made a smooth transition to the mobile world.
Now a small cell phone provider named Helio LLC is introducing a service for its youthful target audience that not only lets you know whether a friend’s phone is turned on, but tells you where that person is.
The new “Buddy Beacon” feature uses GPS satellite technology to track up to 25 fellow Helio subscribers. Their locations are plotted on a map displayed on the screen of a pricey new handset that’s also being launched on Thursday.
The user can see the nearest address for each buddy’s location. If one user notices that a friend is nearby, a call can be placed directly from the application. As you might expect, a person has to consent to being tracked on someone else’s list of Beacon buddies.
The telecommunications bubble of the late 1990s included countless unfulfilled promises about the impending arrival of cell phones with robust location-tracking capabilities.
The Galleria Seoul Interaction

[from archinect.com]
We’ve seen screens of LEDs on facades before, but nowhere in the world we’ve seen the media wrapping around the volume, forming a skin to the building, fluid and dynamic. At the Galleria Fashion Mall in Seoul, it does. What is a sophisticated frosted glass facade having a mother-of-pearl effect during the day, transforms into a vibrant and scenic experience at night. 5,000 glass disks each having their own individual RGB luminaire, together make up an ocean of colours and movements.
The effect of the Galleria lighting design goes much beyond a fancy colour projection. People stop in the street, take pictures, interact with the facade, video it, all of them are amazed. Nothing reminds them of the dull, blind, concrete facade that Galleria was until recently. The design’s subtle colour changes and abstract images perfectly fit the contemporary image of the building. The Galleria Fashion Mall is back in town.
